The NSW Government has recently introduced the Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Planning Portal) Regulation 2020, which requires certain planning applications to be made through ePlanning Digital Services. As of 1 July 2020, a number of Councils and Principal Certifying Authorities (PCAs) including Sydney Metropolitan area must use ePlanning Digital services, and by the 31st of December this year, must transition to 100% ePlanning.

The new regulation seeks to make use of the Portal compulsory for lodging certain planning applications, assessing the applications, and issuing relevant Consents, CDCs and Certificates. The introduction of the Portal is intended to make it easier for public and government agencies to interact, and to drive the digital transformation of all planning services.
